Alex Hensley
I am a partner, friend, mom of one dog & three cats, and dancer first & foremost.
As a changemaker, I served as Special Assistant to Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris and led the work to achieve:

Ban the Box to reduce hiring disparities and provide living wage job opportunities for formerly incarcerated people

Historic oil pipeline regulation to keep oil pipelines out of neighborhoods and away from schools and churches

Living wages for cafeteria workers

Historic funding for public transit

Shelby County's first funded Youth Council to increase youth voice & engagement in government
& most recently drafted and co-led the efforts to pass 6 laws for police accountability after the tragic murder of Tyre Nichols.

Our goal is to help as many leaders as possible to build sustainable movements through policy advocacy, platform building, & well-being. This holistic strategy will fuel movements that can tackle our toughest challenges, while ensuring we feel the freedom we're fighting for right now.

As a political strategist, I served as:

Campaign Manager to successfully reelect Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris with 58% of the vote
-
Deputy Campaign Manager for Representative Justin J. Pearson, who gained national recognition following his expulsion for protesting gun violence on the house floor
I now run the Strategy Studio, a course designed to help justice-centered leaders learn the skills to draft policy, build coalitions, and prioritize their well-being.
As someone committed to community service, I also serve as the Chair of the Groundwater Quality Control Board, Policy Chair of Decarcerate Memphis, & as a Board Member of Memphis For All.
